Vancouver Olympics

Let's just pretend that the last post never happened. I have no idea where I got this "first of the month" blogging idea. Seems I've been gone long enough to receive some spam on my comments section. I'll just take them as loving fans! Moving on . . .
Welcome world to Vancouver! We've all been preparing for the Olympics for a long time here in the city - the upheaval of the Cambie street, the buses, the construction, the downtown madness - but really, nothing totally prepares you for having your city turn into an Olympic site - - and I love every minute of it!! The first thing that really got me excited was going to the rehearsal for the opening ceremonies this past Monday. Raph, of course, was performing in the show so he got 5 tickets! We weren't allowed to bring cameras, so I didn't take any pictures, but needless to say, it was a wonderful experience. My favorite part was when all the flags came out, and then at the end, the Canadian flag was brought out. Even though it was just a rehearsal, there was so much excitment in the stadium, that everyone stood on their feet and cheered and I felt really emotional and certainly very proud of my country. My other favorite part was of course, the part that my dear hubby was in - which was the "Rhythms of the Fall section". He was a lumberjack fiddler with a violin with a flaming bow!
Next up - the torch came right by my work place on 10th Ave. this past Thursday. Thousands of people gathered to see the flame come by, and I was hard pressed to get a good photo. Everyone in Point Grey was there and the energy that evening was nothing like I had seen. Point Grey is usually such a quiet neighborhood and that evening it was sizzling!
Finally, yesterday, I watched the opening ceremonies with my close friend Rebecca. It was neat watching it on the screen when I had seen the rehearsal earlier that week. There were so many things that looked better on camera and other things that looked way better in real life. Afterwards, I met Raph downtown and we partied away at a club full of cast members. It was so much fun, we stayed out really late and just savored the excitement. I don't think Vancouver has ever been this much fun before!
